When a teacher asks you to do research and report your findings, they often ask that you include some primary sources.  Just what are primary sources and how do they differ from other (secondary) sources?  Watch this presentation from an MIT Material’s Engineering class called ‘Becoming a Tech-Savvy Scholar’:

Bubbl.us is a free web-based graphic organizer that is used to brainstorm and create concept maps.  We will learn to use bubbl.us this week by creating a concept map of the main ideas in Ch. 14 of the chemistry textbook.  To sign up for a free account, use the e-mail account pengeldrum+your first name and the initial of your last name @gmail.com.  Example:  pengeldrum+mattd@gmail.com

During the month of march, Chemistry classes will be engaged in a project that will investigate changes in the ocean that may be linked with global climate change. Some of the questions we will be addressing:

- is ocean chemistry changing, especially pH?

- are chemistry changes affecting the oceanic food chain?

-are coral reefs endangered?

We will investigate these topics through laboratory work and web-based activities and research.
